Medical transportation in Crystal Lake, IL is available through Dream Care Rides starting at $50–$60 (ambulatory), $60–$70 (wheelchair), or $350–$400 (stretcher) base per leg, plus mileage. Call (708) 505-6994 or book online for same-day and scheduled rides to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, Mercyhealth Hospital and Physician Clinic–Crystal Lake, and 3 additional medical facilities, served from our Palatine base 35 min away.
Crystal Lake sits at the edge of the metro, and its health care is spread out. Northwestern Medicine Huntley and McHenry hospitals are each a drive away, Mercyhealth runs a small hospital on Route 31 in town, and the academic specialists many patients eventually need are in Chicago, about 50 road miles southeast. Our drivers come from the Palatine base, about 35 minutes away, and long-distance trips into the city are a regular part of the Crystal Lake schedule.
To book a medical ride from Crystal Lake, call (708) 505-6994 or schedule online at dreamcarerides.com/booking. We are primarily a private-pay provider. Medicaid accepted in select service areas — call (708) 505-6994 to check availability. We coordinate with discharge planners and case managers for facility-to-home and facility-to-facility transfers. Service is available seven days a week, including weekends and holidays; after-hours pickups carry a fee shown before you book.
Crystal Lake is well served for everyday care. Mercyhealth's hospital on Route 31 has a 24-hour emergency department, Northwestern Medicine runs full hospitals in Huntley and McHenry, both Level II trauma centers, and Advocate Good Shepherd is east in Barrington. For a routine visit, a Crystal Lake resident has options within a short drive.
The hard trips are the long ones. Transplant evaluations, complex cancer treatment, pediatric subspecialties and certain surgeries happen at academic medical centers in Chicago, roughly 50 road miles away. That is a long drive for a patient who has just had chemotherapy or who cannot sit upright, and it often means a family member losing a full day of work.
Public transit does not fill that gap. Metra runs into the city, but getting from a Crystal Lake home to the station and from a downtown terminal to a hospital entrance is not realistic for a wheelchair user or a patient on a stretcher, and fixed-route bus service across McHenry County is limited.
We plan these trips in advance. We ask for the appointment time, the hospital and building, and how the rider is traveling, then schedule a departure from Crystal Lake that leaves room for Kennedy Expressway traffic. The price, including long-distance miles, is on screen before you book.
Round trips need the most planning. A downtown appointment at 10 AM can mean a pickup before 8, then either a wait or a separate return leg, then a drive home through afternoon traffic. We talk through the options when you book, so the rider is not left sitting in a hospital lobby for hours.
Local Insight
Route 31, Route 14 (Northwest Highway) and Randall Road are the main routes out of Crystal Lake toward the hospitals, and Randall gets congested near the Algonquin shopping corridors. In winter, rural stretches between Crystal Lake and Huntley drift over, so we allow extra time after snowfall.
Our Palatine base is 35 min from Crystal Lake
Northwest suburban rides are dispatched from our Palatine base, about 17 miles from Crystal Lake, not from our Olympia Fields headquarters. Call (708) 505-6994 for your exact upfront quote.

Crystal Lake is far from our Olympia Fields headquarters, so we serve it from our Palatine base, about 35 minutes southeast. That still means planning: we ask for a day's notice when possible so a driver is positioned for your pickup. What we bring is range. We run local trips to Huntley, McHenry and Mercyhealth's hospital on Route 31, and we run the long ones into Chicago for transplant consults, cancer treatment and specialist visits that are not offered in McHenry County. Every leg is priced before you book, including long-distance miles. Riders can go ambulatory, in their own wheelchair on a ramp van, or by stretcher with a two-person crew. Call (708) 505-6994 to plan a trip into the city.
