Ambulatory Transportation — Three Service Levels for Every Need

Ambulatory transportation is non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for patients who can walk but may need assistance getting to and from medical appointments. This includes patients who use canes, walkers, or rollators and need a trained driver to help them safely get in and out of the vehicle and navigate to their destination.

We offer three ambulatory service levels. Curb to Curb is our base level where the driver picks up and drops off at the curb. Door to Door adds assistance from your front door to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the entrance of your destination. Hand to Hand is our premium level where your driver provides continuous physical assistance throughout the entire trip, including interior navigation and facility sign-in.

Rideshare drivers provide curb-to-curb service only — they stay in the car and you are on your own. Dream Care Rides offers three service levels including Door to Door and Hand to Hand assistance. Our drivers are background-checked, drug-tested, and trained in patient assistance. We also offer wait-and-return, recurring scheduling, and stair assistance.

Hand to Hand is our premium ambulatory service level. Your driver physically walks to your door, assists you to the vehicle, helps you in and out, and walks you into your destination — whether that is a doctor's office lobby, a hospital entrance, or your front door at home. You receive continuous personal assistance at every transition point of your trip.

Pricing depends on distance, service level (Curb to Curb, Door to Door, or Hand to Hand), and whether you need wait-and-return. Yes, Medicaid covers non-emergency medical transportation in Illinois for eligible members. Dream Care Rides works with Medicaid managed care organizations to provide covered ambulatory trips. Contact your Medicaid plan to confirm your NEMT benefit, then call us to schedule your ride.

Absolutely. Our sedans and SUVs accommodate walkers, canes, rollators, and other mobility aids. Our drivers are trained to safely stow your equipment and assist you in and out of the vehicle. If you need more extensive help, such as stair assistance or interior navigation, ask about our Hand to Hand service level.

We recommend booking at least 24 to 48 hours in advance for the best availability. For recurring trips like dialysis or physical therapy, set up a standing schedule and your rides are automatically reserved each week. Same-day requests may be available depending on fleet capacity — call us to check.

Yes. Wait-and-return means your driver stays on-site during your appointment and drives you home when you are done. This is ideal for dialysis sessions, outpatient procedures, and short specialist visits where rebooking a separate return trip is inconvenient.

Yes. One companion, family member, or caregiver can ride along at no additional charge on most ambulatory trips.
