Compassionate, specialized transportation for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. Consistent drivers, caregiver coordination, and the patience your loved one deserves.
Transporting a person living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease requires far more than a vehicle and a driver. It requires patience, training, consistency, and genuine compassion. Individuals with cognitive decline may feel confused by unfamiliar environments, anxious around strangers, or disoriented when routines change. A standard rideshare or taxi service is not equipped to handle these situations safely.
Dream Care Rides specializes in NEMT for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's across the greater Chicago area. Our approach is built on three principles that matter most to families and caregivers: consistency, extra time, and continuous supervision. Every ride is designed to minimize confusion and maximize comfort for the patient.
We never leave a dementia patient unattended. From the moment our driver arrives at the door to the moment they hand the patient off to a caregiver or facility staff member at the destination, there is always a trained professional present. This door-through-door service is not optional for memory care patients; it is our standard operating procedure.
For people living with dementia, familiarity is a source of comfort and security. Seeing the same face at every pickup dramatically reduces the anxiety that often accompanies transitions and travel. Dream Care Rides assigns a primary driver to every dementia patient account, along with a trained backup driver who is briefed on the patient's specific needs and preferences.
Your assigned driver learns the patient's name, preferred communication style, calming techniques, and any behavioral patterns to be aware of. Over time, this consistency builds a relationship of trust between the driver and the patient. Many families tell us that their loved one looks forward to seeing their driver, which speaks to the quality of the connection our team builds.
If the primary driver is unavailable due to illness or time off, the backup driver steps in. This backup driver has already reviewed the patient profile and, whenever possible, has met the patient during a previous ride. The transition is as seamless as possible.
Many of our dementia transportation clients are arranged by adult children or family members who live outside of Illinois. Managing a parent's medical appointments from another state is stressful, and transportation logistics add another layer of complexity. Dream Care Rides makes remote coordination simple.
Family members can book rides, update patient profiles, receive ride confirmations, and communicate with our dispatch team entirely by phone, email, or through our online booking system. We send automatic notifications when the driver picks up the patient, when they arrive at the appointment, and when they return home. This real-time visibility gives out-of-state families peace of mind that their loved one is safe and on schedule.
We also coordinate directly with assisted living facilities, memory care communities, and in-home caregivers to ensure smooth handoffs. If your parent's aide needs to communicate special instructions to the driver before a specific appointment, our system accommodates that seamlessly.
We transport dementia and Alzheimer's patients to leading memory care specialists, neurology departments, and cognitive health clinics throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

MaywoodSetting up transportation for a loved one with dementia is simple. Family members, caregivers, facility staff, and physicians can all initiate the process on behalf of the patient.
Dementia transportation pricing follows our standard NEMT rate structure. Ambulatory rides start at $25 to $35 base fare. Wheelchair transport ranges from $45 to $65 per one-way trip. Wait-time during appointments is billed at an hourly rate and varies based on expected duration.
We understand that dementia care is often a family effort with costs shared among siblings or extended family members. Dream Care Rides offers family billing arrangements where a single monthly invoice can be sent to a designated family contact, making it easy to split costs and track expenses. We also accept Medicaid managed-care plans and select commercial insurance for eligible patients.
For families managing long-term care budgets, we provide transparent pricing with no hidden fees. Every cost is discussed upfront so there are no surprises. Contact us at (708) 505-6994 to discuss your family's specific needs and budget.
Every Dream Care Rides driver who serves dementia patients receives specialized training in cognitive impairment awareness, de-escalation techniques, and patient-centered communication. Our training covers recognizing signs of confusion, agitation, and sundowning, as well as appropriate responses to each situation.
Drivers are taught never to argue with, correct, or rush a patient with dementia. Instead, they use calm, simple language, maintain a reassuring presence, and allow the patient to set the pace. This approach is informed by best practices recommended by the Alzheimer's Association and the National Institute on Aging.
