Wheelchair van transport to O'Hare costs $65 to $115 base plus $3 to $6 per mile. Stretcher transport starts at $300 base plus $5 to $16 per mile. This guide covers every terminal's ADA pickup zone, airline coordination, booking timelines, and what wheelchair and stretcher passengers should expect. Call (708) 505-6994 to book.
Airline wheelchair assistance and NEMT airport transportation are two different services that cover two different legs of the journey. Airline wheelchair assistance is the service you request through your airline. It provides an attendant who wheels you from the check-in counter to your gate, and from the gate to baggage claim on arrival. This service is free under federal law and is handled entirely by the airline or airport contractor.
NEMT airport transportation is the ground leg — getting you from your home, hospital, or facility to the airport terminal, or from the terminal to your destination after landing. This is the part that requires an ADA-compliant wheelchair van or stretcher vehicle, a trained driver, and door-through-door assistance. Dream Care Rides handles this ground leg for patients throughout the Chicago metro area.
To ensure a smooth trip, you need both: book Dream Care Rides for the ground transport and contact your airline for in-airport wheelchair assistance. Below is a terminal-by-terminal breakdown of where our drivers pick up and drop off at O'Hare.
The ADA-accessible pickup zone for Terminal 1 is on the arrivals (lower) level, near Door 1B. This zone has raised curbing and enough clearance for a wheelchair van ramp. For drop-offs, the upper (departures) level curb outside Door 1C provides direct access to the United check-in counters. Our driver assists the passenger from the van to the airline wheelchair assistance desk located inside the terminal.
Airlines: United, Lufthansa, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International
Terminal 2's ADA pickup zone is on the arrivals level near Door 2E, adjacent to the baggage carousel exit. The accessible loading zone is marked with international accessibility symbols and offers space for ramp deployment. For departures, the drop-off zone on the upper level near Door 2D is closest to the ticket counters with accessible pathways.
Airlines: Delta, Air Canada, WestJet, Korean Air
Terminal 3 is the busiest domestic terminal at O'Hare. The ADA-accessible commercial vehicle zone is on the arrivals level near Door 3H. This area tends to be congested during peak hours (6–9 AM and 4–7 PM), so our drivers arrive 15 minutes early to secure a loading position. The departures drop-off zone is on the upper level near Door 3G with a direct path to the American Airlines check-in hall.
Airlines: American, Spirit, JetBlue, Alaska, Frontier
Terminal 5 handles international arrivals and departures. The ADA pickup zone is on the arrivals level near Door 5E, outside the customs exit. Passengers exiting customs follow signs for accessible ground transportation. Wait times at Terminal 5 can be longer because of customs processing, so we build in extra buffer time. For international departures, the drop-off zone on the upper level near Door 5A provides access to the departure hall.
Airlines: All international carriers including British Airways, Qatar, Japan Airlines, Air France, El Al, Turkish Airlines, and more
When you book a wheelchair van to O'Hare, your driver arrives at your home or facility at the scheduled time. The driver enters the building, assists you into your wheelchair if needed, and wheels you to the van. The van's rear ramp deploys, and the driver rolls you aboard and engages the floor-mounted securement system that locks your wheelchair in place during transit.
At O'Hare, the driver pulls into the ADA curb zone at your assigned terminal. The ramp deploys again, and the driver wheels you from the van to the terminal entrance. For departures, the driver accompanies you inside to the airline's wheelchair assistance desk and confirms that airline staff has taken over. For arrivals, the driver is already at the ADA curb zone when you exit, with the ramp deployed and ready to board.
Dream Care Rides vans accommodate manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs up to 350 pounds, and motorized scooters. If your mobility device exceeds 350 pounds, notify us at booking and we assign a bariatric-rated vehicle. All wheelchair securements are Q'Straint certified and crash-tested to federal transit standards.
Stretcher transport to O'Hare involves a two-person crew — a driver and an attendant. The crew arrives at the patient's location with the medical stretcher, performs a safe bed-to-stretcher transfer inside the room, secures the patient with a five-point harness, and loads the stretcher into the ambulette using a hydraulic lift system. The attendant rides in the patient compartment for the entire trip, monitoring comfort and safety.
At O'Hare, the crew unloads the stretcher at the terminal's ADA zone and coordinates with airline ground staff or the air ambulance team. For patients connecting to a commercial flight with medical escort, the airline typically sends a ground crew to receive the stretcher at the terminal curb. For air ambulance connections, the handoff may occur at the private aviation terminal (Signature Flight Support or Atlantic Aviation) rather than the main passenger terminals.
