Mount Prospect is a large, established village without a hospital of its own. That is not a crisis, since three good hospitals are nearby, but it means every hospital visit is a trip out of town, and the three campuses are in different directions.

Northwest Community Hospital, now part of Endeavor Health, is the closest for most residents, just north on Central Road in Arlington Heights. It is a Level II trauma center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, to the southeast, is a Level I trauma center with a children's hospital on campus. Ascension Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village, to the southwest, is a Level II trauma center with a separate rehabilitation hospital nearby on Beisner Road.

Patients follow their doctors, and doctors are affiliated with different systems. A Mount Prospect resident may see a cardiologist at Lutheran General, have surgery at Northwest Community and recover at Alexian Brothers rehab. Fixed-route transit connects some of these but not door to door, and not for someone in a wheelchair or on a stretcher.
