Short answer: Yes. For private-pay ambulatory and wheelchair NEMT, same-day bookings are usually possible if capacity is available — especially in the Chicago metro area. Medicaid same-day rides are limited to urgent cases like hospital discharges or unscheduled appointments.

Illinois Medicaid programs allow urgent same-day authorizations for qualifying situations — most commonly hospital discharges. Your hospital case manager or the MCO transportation line can request expedited authorization. Our discharge transportation guide covers this in detail.
