Specialized Vehicles

Commercial Insurance
NEMT providers pay $8,000 - $20,000+ per vehicle per year in commercial auto, general liability, workers compensation, and SAM (Sexual Abuse & Molestation) coverage. Vulnerable passengers mean higher claim severity.
Trained Drivers
Every driver needs background checks, drug testing, CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, ADA compliance, and wheelchair securement certification. Driver wages make up 40 - 45% of total revenue.

A stretcher ride needs a stretcher van, medical-grade equipment and a crew trained for lifts and transfers, and it carries higher insurance costs. Across the industry, stretcher base rates run several times the ambulatory rate.
