Short answer: A no-show is logged when a scheduled Medicaid NEMT trip cannot be completed because the member is not ready or available at the pickup time and did not cancel in advance. Repeat no-shows on an authorization can trigger MCO warnings and, in some plans, temporary suspension of the transportation benefit.
A no-show is typically recorded when (a) the NEMT vehicle arrives within the agreed pickup window, (b) the driver waits the required grace period, and (c) the member does not appear and has not cancelled in advance. Every Illinois MCO has its own definition, but the structure is similar. See our Medicaid NEMT coverage guide for the broader rules.
Repeated no-shows raise red flags for the MCO and broker. They can slow future authorizations and, in some plans, prompt a member services follow-up. Provider-side documentation of no-shows is part of the broader billing workflow described in our Medicaid NEMT billing guide.
