Medical transportation in Blue Island, IL is available through Dream Care Rides starting at $50–$60 (ambulatory), $60–$70 (wheelchair), or $350–$400 (stretcher) base per leg, plus mileage. Call (708) 505-6994 or book online for same-day and scheduled rides to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Cook County Health Blue Island Health Center, and 4 additional medical facilities, just 25 min from our Olympia Fields headquarters.
Blue Island lost its hospital when MetroSouth Medical Center closed in 2019, and the campus has not reopened as one. Hospital stays, specialist visits and discharges now mean leaving town: Advocate Christ in Oak Lawn, UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial in Harvey, or Roseland Community Hospital on 111th Street in Chicago. Primary care is still local at the Cook County Health center on Western Avenue, and we drive both kinds of trips.
To book a medical ride from Blue Island, call (708) 505-6994 or schedule online at dreamcarerides.com/booking. We are primarily a private-pay provider. Medicaid accepted in select service areas — call (708) 505-6994 to check availability. We coordinate with discharge planners and case managers for facility-to-home and facility-to-facility transfers. Service is available seven days a week, including weekends and holidays; after-hours pickups carry a fee shown before you book.
For generations Blue Island had its own hospital. When MetroSouth Medical Center shut its doors in 2019, the city lost its emergency department, its inpatient beds and the specialists who practiced on that campus. The building has sat empty since, and redevelopment plans have changed hands more than once without bringing a hospital back.
The practical effect is distance. A heart patient who used to be admitted a mile from home is now admitted in Oak Lawn. A new mother, a dialysis patient, a senior with a hip replacement: each one crosses a city line to get care and crosses it again to come home. For households without a car, that turns every follow-up into a logistics problem.
Some care did stay. Cook County Health runs a health center on Western Avenue with primary care inside the city. Roseland Community Hospital is just over the line on 111th Street, and Ingalls in Harvey and Christ in Oak Lawn are both reachable in well under half an hour.
What Blue Island needs is a dependable way to reach them. That is the gap we fill: door-to-door rides, wheelchair vans and stretcher crews, booked for a single appointment or as a repeating schedule, from a base that is closer to Blue Island than most of its destinations are. Case managers at Christ and Ingalls can book the ride home for a Blue Island patient directly. Families can do the same from a phone, and a standing order means someone on dialysis or chemotherapy does not have to arrange each trip from scratch.
Local Insight
Western Avenue and 127th Street are the main arteries, and freight crossings near the rail yards can stop traffic without warning. Many Blue Island homes sit on narrow side streets with parking on both sides, so tell us if the driver should pull into an alley or a rear drive.

Blue Island is one of the closest cities to our Olympia Fields headquarters, about 11 miles and 25 minutes away, and we cover it as home ground. What changed here is the destination. Before 2019 a Blue Island patient could be discharged a few blocks from home; now the nearest beds are in Oak Lawn, Harvey or Roseland, and a family without a car is left arranging a ride across town for every follow-up. Two Metra lines meet at Vermont Street, but they run toward downtown, not toward the hospitals patients actually use. We pick up at the door, including older two-flats with front steps, and we carry stair chairs for riders who cannot manage them. Wheelchair vans, stretchers with a two-person crew, and ordinary sedans for walking riders all run from the same dispatch. Call (708) 505-6994 and we will tell you which vehicle fits and what the trip costs.
